Aracedayadrinkaday

Because of restricted pub opening times, when British rail many years ago had a monopoly on daytime drinking their Awayday tickets (return tickets) were known, at least by Kentucky, as Awayday a drink a day. One can now drink anywhere anytime pretty much. Drink is as accessible as porn. Progress, eh? But there is still the ‘lock-in’ thrill of a beer crucible and I experienced this for the first time at the races. Not being a betting man (I’m a drinking man — do I have to explain everything?) I had never been to the geeegees afore. But this weekend was the swansong (mixed animal metaphor) of the greatest horseracer of all time [discuss], Frankel, and frankly you had to be at the races. A great day was had by all, though I don’t remember a lot.
