When my old dad tutored me in the ways of righteousness he told me that the correct way to invite a lady to have sex with you was to ask her to come up and see your etchings. Since that day I have taken a great interest in the work of French engraver Gustave Doré. This was a guy who had the wisdom and talent to illustrate The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Paradise Lost, the Bible, Don Quixote, Poe’s ‘The Raven’ and The Legend of the Wandering Jew. Obviously a cheery soul, he nonetheless passed his gifts into the gene pool and produced progeny of the calibre of Laura Doré. Hailing from Max’s current hometown, Laura reminds me of nothing more than her great great grand uncle’s father’s illustrations for Dante’s ‘Inferno’. Mostly because her arse brings to mind the phrase ‘Abandon hope all ye who enter here’.
