We had feared the worst of the best: Theakston’s. However Theakston’s is now an independent again and a well-kept pint of their best bitter was a treat at the Fauconberg Arms. Pleasant staff, a place for muddy boots, and a real fire to send the steam rising off my sodden behind, which had been dragged up to Shandy Hall in a downpour by Kentucky. Very nice two-room pub with the lounge, a roaring fire, and pub grub in the front, then the public bar, beer, and views in the back. Consider that a recommendation, in my opinion, Tristram.
