I remember fondly the year 1989 when the Government changed the Drink Licensing Laws in the UK. Kentucky and I were there the first day of the new law in the Hyde Park at 11am. Instead of being kicked out at 3pm – we carried on drinking. I’m guessing it was 7pm or later when we finally emerged for a breather – Kentucky shouted, in a defiant drunken slur, these beautiful words:
These New Drink Licensing Laws Have Not Changed Our Drinking One Bit!
I think limiting drinking hours just makes you drink more, quicker. That day we drank at a leisurely pace, without the usual fear of being shut down. It was a beautiful day.
