Max Moriarty

One of the nicest things Kentucky ever said to me was that I reminded him of Dean Moriarty in Kerouac’s On The Road: … the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle you see the blue centerlight pop and everybody goes “Awww!” Now I’m quite convinced that Kentucky had one too many G&V’s when he said this, but it does make me smile to think of the times we had. Kentucky and The Consul called me today – they of course were at the Ragged Cock and I was stuck in the office – so I’m not sure how much burning I’m doing these days, but it was great to hear their voices.
